VET-POWER is an Erasmus+ Capacity Building in VET project that builds on previous cooperation between European and African vocational education and training institutions, particularly the experience developed through the SAAM pilot mobility scheme. The project brings together partners from Spain, France, Italy, Benin, Burkina Faso and Cameroon to strengthen vocational education and training in the electricity sector, with a strong focus on employability, work-based learning and international cooperation.
The project responds to the need to modernise VET provision in African partner countries by aligning training more closely with labour market needs, especially in the electricity sector. This sector is strategically relevant for green transition, energy access, digitalisation and local economic development. However, many VET centres still face challenges related to updated curricula, practical training equipment, teacher upskilling, links with companies, internationalisation capacities and structured work-based learning opportunities.
In this context, VET-POWER supports African VET centres in Benin, Burkina Faso and Cameroon to improve the quality and relevance of their training offer. The project works with VET managers, teachers, in-company tutors, learners, companies and institutional stakeholders to develop training modules, reinforce pedagogical and technical competences, promote inclusive and innovative teaching methods, and strengthen cooperation between schools and the private sector.
Since February 2026, Mundus has assumed the coordination of the project, ensuring continuity in strategic management, technical follow-up, quality assurance, reporting and consortium coordination.
Results
The project will generate practical and reusable results for VET centres, trainers, learners and companies:
Skills gap analysis in the electricity sector, identifying training needs, competence gaps and recommendations for partner VET centres.
Training modules for initial and continuous VET, focused on electricity and integrating technical, green, digital and transversal competences.
Capacity-building action plan for teachers, managers and in-company tutors.
Training activities for VET staff, improving pedagogical, technical, digital, inclusive and work-based learning competences.
Internationalisation needs analysis and action plans for African VET centres.
Catalogue of good practices in internationalisation, based on European partner experience.
Mobility activities for managers, trainers and learners, supporting peer learning and practical exposure to international VET models.
Strengthened cooperation between VET centres and companies, especially through work-based learning and practical training pathways.
The expected results are designed to improve the usability of training materials, reinforce institutional capacities and support long-term integration of internationalisation and work-based learning in African VET centres.
Project Activities
VET-POWER is structured around a set of complementary activities aimed at strengthening VET provision in the electricity sector.
The project starts with an analysis of skills gaps and training needs in the African partner countries, focusing on the electricity sector and the needs of VET schools, teachers, learners and companies. Based on this diagnosis, the consortium develops new training modules for initial and continuous VET, integrating labour-market needs, green and digital transition priorities, and transversal competences.
A major component of the project is the capacity building of VET teachers, managers and in-company tutors. This includes online and in-person training, peer learning, exchange of good practices and mobility activities in Europe and Africa. The project also supports the design of work-based learning frameworks, helping VET centres to cooperate more effectively with companies and offer learners more practical training opportunities.
In parallel, VET-POWER works on the internationalisation of African VET centres. This includes needs analysis, internationalisation action plans, training on international cooperation and project development, and the implementation of mobility and cooperation activities between partner institutions.
The project also includes dissemination, communication, quality assurance, monitoring and coordination activities to ensure visibility, sustainability and long-term impact.
